What I get called for
These are the jobs I get called for the most. They're not the only ones. I can weld or build pretty much anything made of metal, so if yours isn't on here, send me a picture and ask.

On-site repair + fabrication
I bring the truck out and fix it or build it right where it sits.

Heavy equipment + farm
Excavator buckets, booms and sticks, tractors and implements.

Trailer, RV + hitch repair
Spring hangers, couplers, hitches, tongues and frames.

Handrails + gates
Built in my shop to fit your stairs or ramp, then I put them in.

Aluminum fabrication
Yes, I weld aluminum. Truck skids, racks and trailer frames.

Boats + docks
Stainless rails, pontoon brackets, aluminum boats and dock platforms.

Steel demolition
Old gates, rails, stairs and brackets cut out on site, ready for the new one.
Some of my work
I do a lot of repairs, and I build custom stuff too. The slider is a set of new stairs on a house, before the rails went on and after. Drag the handle and watch the bead run.
A fifth wheel
The owners wanted to haul their e-bikes. I cut off the rear bumper and rebuilt it with a receiver tube, so the bike carrier plugs right in.
Aluminum truck skids
Did 60 of these last year. Full drop-in beds for 6 and 8 foot trucks, with two shelves running the length of the bed on both sides.
Greenhouse stairs, North Portland
Custom steel stairs down into an underground greenhouse. We changed the design after I looked at it, and the bid stayed the same.

Same stairs on a new house. No rail yet, then the black steel rails I put on.
Fix it, then make it stronger
Most breaks happen at a weak spot. I fix the break, then I add plate or gussets where it failed, and I look over the rest while I'm there.
- Fix the breakGrind out the crack and the old weld, fit it up tight, and weld it back.
- Make it strongerPlate or a gusset where it failed, so it doesn't let go in the same spot again.
- Check the restI look over the frame or the machine while I'm there and tell you what else I see.
Neal’s repairs didn’t just “fix” the problem, he strengthened the failure points to reduce the likelihood of another occurrence of failure.

Word for word off my Google listing, as of October 22, 2026. The things people bring up most are fair prices and showing up on time.
Our 5th wheel broke a mounting bracket in the suspension and we didn't notice it until we were in a campground. Neal was recommended for the job. Though he was busy, he was able to reschedule some things and come out the next morning. Neal showed up first thing with his truck and was able to weld and reinforce the bracket and get us back on the road. My son is also a welder later took a look at the repair and said that Neal did quality work. Neal provided excellent service and quality work at a fair price. I highly recommend.Read the whole review
Neal was amazing from start to finish. He solved a large problem for us welding our aluminum travel trailer frame. He did it better than I could have ever hoped for, faster than anticipated, and under budget. Do not hesitate to work with him. He is an honest man who will do right by you.
Neal did a fantastic job fabricating and installing a railing on our very steep driveway. It is exactly what we needed to help my husband go up and down the driveway with confidence. Neal came by the day after I first contacted him about the railing for an estimate. He knew exactly what we needed and how to accomplish it. He finished the work on schedule and was very communicative throughout the process. I would highly recommend him for any iron work project you might have.Read the whole review
Great experience with Neal welding stainless railing on charter boats. Reliable, efficient, and solid communication with timing the weather!
We had a broken spring hanger on our RV! Neal came on time, fixed and reinforced the problem, replaced 12 bushings and wet bolts. He’s was very friendly, efficient and fairly priced. We would recommend him to everyone!
My tractor bucket was being torn off the bases (due to my abuse) and Neal welded it back and put in plates to strengthen it. He added some plates where the attachments (brush forks) was damaging the bucket. Seems very much stronger now (already buried the front end in mud and no issues with it holding while I used the bucket to get it out). It wasn't exactly what I had in mind, he came up with a better stronger solution instead. I'm very happy with the repair. Thanks.Read the whole review
I called and left a message for Neal at 10 am on a Wednesday. He called back by 3pm that afternoon. We talked for 30 minutes about the job. He showed up next day, on time, and got to work. He is professional. He knows exactly what he is doing. No guess work, ever. On a different level, Neal is good guy. Took the time to explain what he was going to do. Why he was going to do it a certain way, etc. All top quality work. And pricing, I was expecting to pay a lot more than I did. This is that one time where I can see don't bother calling any other business. He is that good.Read the whole review
Neal is amazing. I needed someone to come out before harvest to equip my forklift with a hitch ball through one of the forks. Not only did he come within an hour, he completed the job in record time. I'm definitely going to continue hiring Neal's Mobile Welding moving forward for my winery. Solidly endorse.
Neal was amazing. He created a custom trailer hitch for my 5th wheel for my ebike rack and it's not going anywhere (actually used it the next day to go camping). I liked that he made sure it was built proper not cheap. Most important he communicated through the process and changed as we needed to. I would recommend him to my family and friends.Read the whole review
I’ve purchased 2 truck skids now from Neal. I’m in Washington state, a few hours drive from him. When we started chatting about building one out, he was awesome in sending a lot of photos of his welding so I felt I was purchasing a quality build. He came through. Communication was great throughout the process, we communicated back and forth with ease with how I wanted it built. After taking delivery of the first and being impressed, I ordered another to be built. Also sent a referral who purchased multiple units. Highly recommend working with Neil. He knows his stuff and produces a quality product.Read the whole review
Neal designed, crafted and installed beautiful handrails for us. We had a tight deadline and he worked overtime to meet our deadline and still charged us his regular rate. He is responsive, respectful and reliable. Highly recommend.
Called with an emergency, he was here within 30 minutes and got the job done better than I expected. Will only use Neal for now on.
Highly recommend Neal's Mobile Welding for trailer repairs. I'm looking forward to trying him for some fabrication in the future. He is clearly very knowledgable and passionate for his craft. Neal is an all around good guy, he communicated well, explained the repair and even inspected my entire trailer frame which was the reassurance that I needed for vintage travel trailer.Read the whole review
Neil has been our go to guy for all our welding needs. He has worked on several of our company vehicles and does an outstanding job. He’s on time, courteous, cleans up after the job is finished, and charges a fair price. His work is something I would definitely recommend to others who are seeking welding services.

Questions I get

What does mobile welding cost?
It's $250 for me to come out if you're within an hour's drive, and that covers about the first two hours. Farther than that costs more, and we'll settle it before I leave. If you want something built, send me pictures and I'll give you a free estimate. Repairs are different. I got to see those in person, so I won't quote a repair over the phone.
Do you weld aluminum?
Yes. I get asked that one all the time, since plenty of welders won't touch aluminum. Last year I built 60 aluminum truck skids, and I've welded aluminum travel trailer frames, boat brackets and guard rail. Bring it to my shop in McMinnville or I'll come to you.
How fast can you get here?
Depends where you are and what I'm in the middle of. Call me and I'll tell you straight. I take emergency calls 24 hours a day, and when I can drop what I'm doing, I do.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. My Oregon CCB number is 259068 and I'm bonded. I'm insured for $2 million in liability, and there's a policy that covers your equipment up to $100,000 if one of my welds fails or I start a fire. I passed the AWS D1.1 structural weld test, 1/8 in to unlimited thickness, and I have an A+ with the BBB. I've been running Neal's Mobile Welding since 2021.
Do you come out to farms and campgrounds?
Yes. That's most of why the truck exists. I've welded an arena harrow that wasn't street legal, cattle panels before the cows got through them, and a 5th wheel's suspension bracket in a campground so the owners could get back on the road.
Can I bring it to your shop?
You can, just call first. It's by appointment. The shop is at 2743 NE Bunn Rd, McMinnville, OR 97128. It's a good spot to sit down and go over a project you have coming up. What I can't do is drop everything for a walk-in repair, because I'm usually in the middle of somebody else's job.
